Reiswerk

It was… a new experience. Lots of food, saying “thank you” to God, what by the way nobody did. Sunday evening was the first dinner and today the second one; potatos, suffings, a mix of very delicious vegetable, turkey and chicken. For dessert we had Apple Pie and a unique cake (I can’t remenber the name). It was very tasty like everything Lynn cooks. Long conversations which I tried to follow, some discussions about politics which I understood ;)

Sometimes, it was a bit funny, too, ’cause my host-grandma can’t stand my host-dad. We were talking about the Second World War… and other wars. Suddenly my host-grandma was angry about him…

“Oh shut up! You even don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Ian answered: “Oh, I know what I’m talking about. I teach it everyday at school!”
“You teach little children, adults should be able to understand better.”

I looked at my host-mum and she looked at me, knowing what I was thinking. Her parents are from Britain, but now they live in Seattle, which I’ll probably go to at Christmas.

Here are now some sentences I heard so often:

“What part in Germany are you from?”
“You know a lot about the Second World War, don’t you?”
“Are you enjoying your time here so far?”
“Have you read…?”

Yeah it was kind of boring, but it was pretty easy to give answers. ;)
Then when we said goodbye again I also heard the same phrases: “It was so nice to meet you again. You’re such a lovely person. I hope you enjoy your time here.” But the most important for me, besides that obviously everybody kind of likes me was: “You’re welcome to celebrate Christmas with us in Seattle, you can come visit us at every time”, and, “You’re welcome to visit me in Victoria, there’s so much to see.” Then I thought, that my “friendly appearance” is finally also profitable for me. I’m very happy about being invited to Seattle and Victoria. :)

Nothing left to tell you again…
I have to do my homework ;)
I failed my Bio test by the way: 24.5 out of 50.5 point more and I would have passed it.

Day 1 (27th September)
- daylight saving begins: the clock turns one hour forward
- got up at 4.30am
- on the way to the airport at 5.20
- check-in,… at about 5.50

- on the flight i talked a little bit with the man next to me
- we had beautiful views over the southern alps in the morning light
- arrival in christchurch at 8.05
- i had to wait 4 hours until the my group met, so i spent it with shopping in the airport shops, eating breakfast, playing sudoku and relaxing on the viewing platform
- met the group at the information desk at 12.00
- bus drive through city, picked up other people of the group
- brought things to youth hostel (room of 8 people)
- guided tour through christchurch
- botanic gardens
- dinner in restaurant (i had gnocci)
- evening in youth hostel

Day 2 (28th September)
- got up at 5.30
- breakfast at 7.00
- on the bus at 8
- bus ride (about 5 and a half hours) through canterbury, athur’s pass, westland
- stops in Springfield, Castle hill, viewing point
- many landscape photos
- learnd that cars and trains often share on way bridge on the south island
- stop in greymouth, driving along westcoast
- stop at the panecake rocks
- time in greymouth because of bus problems, jade shop
- ride to franz josef
- youth hostel (10 people in one room)
- dinner in restaurant: salad with deer meat, chocolate fudge cake
- walk after dinner (unfortunately the glow worm path was closed)

Day 3 (29th September)
- got up at 5.45
- breakfast at 6.30
- on the bus at 7.30
- ride to Fox Glacier
- glacier walk: amazing views, 700 steps in the rainforest, exhausting, uncomfortable shoes
- ride to lake matheson (mirrorlake)
- drive through westland national park
- stop at the beach (many sandflies)
- stop at waterfalls
- wanaka youth hostel: just waesome – 18 plug ins, 6 people in one room, beautiful bathrooms!!, electronic keys
- dinner: barbecue + apple crumble
- short walk to the lake in the dark

Day 4 (30th September)
- got up at 6
-breakfast at 7, bus at 8
- direction queenstown
- bungy jumping (i am so sad that i could not do it)
- queenstown: pick up from information center for the jet boat tour
- from 12 to 6 jet boat tour on dart river(first on a little bus to glenorchy), saw many film sets, short bush walk
- dinner at fergburger
- shopping in town
- youth hostel in queenstown (6 people in one room)

Day 5 (1st October)
- got up at 4.15
- breakfast at 5, on the bus at 6
- ride to milfor sound on one of the most dangerous roads in the world (avalanche area)
- milford sound cruise (saw seals)
- same way back
- bus problems (missed out some stops) – 1 hour in the middle of nowhere, finally a new bus
- youth hostel in te anau (8 people in room)
- rented a funny vehicle for half an hour:-D
- dinner at italian restaurant: vegetarian pizza, tiramisu

Day 6 (2nd October)
- got up at 6, breakfast at 7
- new bus at 8, ride through central otago
- train at 1.00 in middlemarch
- tairi gorge railway to dunedin
- arrival in dunedin at 3.45
- cadbury chocolate factory visit – for the right answers to questions you got chocolate, so i did not get much:-D, but all i got was still more worth than the entrance price
- youth hostel in dunedin (was a mental hospital before, 5 people in the room)
- dinner: buffet (tried everything, ate wih chopsticks)

Day 7 (3rd October)
-got up at 6.45, breakfast at 7.30, on the bus at 8.30
- ride to dunedin habour on peninsula
- habour cruise: bird watching, seals
- short time in town for lunch
- steepest street in the world: became 3rd in the race, won a chocolate
- moeraki boulders (water tide was very high)
- drive to oamaru
- youth hostel: nice painted bathroom, 5 people in the room
- dinner: chicken pasta, crumble
- viewing point
- blue penguin colony (very cute)

Day 8 (4th October)
- got up at 6, breakfast at 7, bus at 815, direction christchurch
- longest bridge of the country
- market in christchurch
- antarctic centre (i think it was not sooo cold): penguins, 4-seasons room, storm demonstration

- waiting in restaurant
- check-in, …
- boarding at 6.20, seat next to emergency exit
- left christchurch at 6.40
- back in auckland at 8

group: 10 germans, 5 brazilians, 3 italians, 1 japanese, 1 portugese, 1 thai, 1 from finnland, 1 from chile, 1? = 24 students

How I promised ;)

This Friday, after school I went to Park Royal to meet Anne and Sybille. And there we met Luke and went to Starbucks :). They left me alone :( but not with intention. I met some new people then, they are all German and go to my school. We went shopping, to Mecces and to the beach. I always realize again how beautiful it is and then I always think “Wow, that’s where you live. You cannot be thankful enough for this chance.” :) The others took a lot of photos, we sang “Durch den Monsun” and other German songs. We just had fun! ;)

So and at Suturday Tobias phoned me. I met him at Park Royal. Yes, I love it. ;) We went together to the Ampleside Soccer Fields, where we met many other Germans, some of them are going to my school, too.

Today, we actually wanted to go to the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. But we didn’t have enough time, so we just bought some binders and other school staff… When we were talking about his school, I got to know a new German boy from his school, therefore I decided to start to count everyone, ’cause we are TOO many! At 6 I hooked up with Gapyung. Her family took me at their flat. That was my first time at a house of a friend who’s not from Germany… Her Mum cooked dinner. Well, I didn’t like it, but only ’cause it was very spicy – after I’d taken some spoons I felt really terrible. Her family is very very nice – like (almost) everbody here – so she cooked a new meal for me. I didn’t like it, too. But because of the politeness, I pretended the opposite. Luckily, they served some friuts after it, and luckily they were no korean fruits :D. Nevertheless, we talked about Germany and Korea, about our plans for the future… . Her Mum drove me home, and she said: “The next time I cook some real korean food for you, that was just usual.”, and I was like “Oh, no that’s really not neccessary, I can show you some German bread!” But as you know me, I didn’t say that. I just said: “How kind of you, thank you very much. Goodbye :)”

That was my very very exciting weekend^^ Well, as you see, I did a lot, but after some time it’s getting more and more common. It’s not boring, but it’s also nothing special.

I have to do my Biology homework now “Cells and Function of the Organelles” Totally horrible!!!

immer wenn man in ein anderes land kommt, fallen einem sachen auf, die man vielleicht ein wenig eigenartig findet…

elektrische bettdecken: in deutschland nicht so verbreitet, aber eine wunderbare erfindung! so ist das bett schon warm wenn man reinsteigt!

vier bettdecken: neben der elektrischen bettdecke (auf der man liegt und die man ueber nacht ausschaltet, damit das haus nicht abbrennt) habe ich hier noch vier weitere bettdecken zum zudecken, damit ich nicht friere, da die neuseelaender ihre haeuser nicht voll heizen. die haeuser hier (ausser die ganz neuen) haben hier naemlich nur einfach-glass in den fenstern und da die neuseelaender nicht aus dem fenster heizen wollen und heizen hier sehr teuer ist, muss man sich in der nacht mit vielen bettdecken warm halten. die erste decke ist nur ein lacken, darueber kommt die normale bettdecke, dann eine wolldecke und schliesslich noch eine dicke decke!

heisse schokolade mit marshmallows: ich hab noch nie vorher davon gehoert, dass man marshmallows in seinen kakao tut. schmeckt aber gut!! habe noch nie so viel heisse schokolade und kakao getrunken wie hier…

meine hunde fressen gerne gemuese :-D (das machen aber glaube ich nur meine verrueckten hunde)

links verkehr: natuerlich weiss man das vorher aber es ist dann doch komisch. das autofahren kommt einem mega gefaehrlich vor ganz am anfang und die bustueren auf der anderen seite des busses. es ist einfach alles auf linksverkehr ausgerichtet, selbst die rolltreppen :-D

school bags: da die schueler ihre persoenlichkeit anscheinend nicht anders ausdruecken koennen findet man an meiner schule jede menge eigenartiger kinderrucksaecke, z.b. spongebob, winnie pooh oder welche in form von komischen fantasiefiguren, die sich an den ruecken klammern…

an deutscher schokolade gibt es hier in den normalen laeden nur ueberraschungseier.

wegfahr-spiel: sehr beliebt und sehr lustig, wenn man nicht das opfer ist! (meistens ist der vater das opfer)… immer wenn er einsteigen will faehrt das auto ‘nen meter weiter!!

keine permanent-marker in der schule!

raeume suchen in der schule: zum glueck gibt es so einen netten plan von der schule, sonst waere es ganz hoffnungslos, denn die schule ist riesig!!

short lunch break: wenn es regnet, klingelt es dreimal zur mittagspause. das heisst die pause geht nur bis 2 und man kann um 3 uhr nach hause gehen. bloed nur wenn man dann wirklich gehen muss ;-) (ich fahre mit dem bus, aber das ist schlimmer wenn das bushaeusschen voll ist, man keinen regenschirm hat und der bus zu spaet kommt)…

happy birthday potato: da meine familie vergessen hatte, einen kuchen fuer meine gastmutter zu backen, haben sie einfach eine kartoffel genommen und drei kerzen reingesteckt!! die kerzen hatten durch zufall die form von H, B und P (in der reihenfolge) = Happy Birthday Potato!!

die zeit vergeht einfach wie im flug. ich kann kaum glauben, dass ich nun schon seit einem monat hier bin.

es tut mir leid, wenn ich laenger nichts schreibe, aber ich moechte auch nicht den ganzen tag vorm pc hocken! darueber hinaus ist noch zu sagen dass es schon einen unterschied macht ob man jeden tag um 4 nach hause kommt oder um halb 2, und ob man von einem voellig fremden pc schreibt.

in meinem ersten monat hier habe ich schon ziemlich viel erlebt. es war bis jetzt nie langweilig!! irgentwas ist immer zu tun und man will ja schliesslich den alltag erleben!!

ich war nun auch schon auf der farm von den grosseltern. die haben schafe und bauen lavendel an. allerdings ist es nicht so eine riesige farm, da es hier in der naehe von auckland ist.

das wetter hier ist ganz annehmbar fuer winter. ueberwiegend scheint die sonne und meistens regnet es nur nachts ;-). die temperaturen sind so zwischen 0 und 5 grad c in der nacht und 5 bis 15 tagsueber!!

zum essen: in meiner gastfamilie gibt es eine bunte mischung an essen aus allen moeglichen laendern (chinesisch, italienisch, mexikanisch,…)!! mein gastvater scheint allerdings sehr auf chicken in allen moeglichen variationen zu stehen ;-).

die leute sind auch alle sehr nett hier. letzte woche ist auch meine tuerkische gastschwester angekommen!! sie spricht nicht so gut englisch und ich habe in der schule viel damit zu tun, ihr zu helfen damit sie nicht verloren geht ;-)

natuerlich habe ich auch schon freunde hier gefunden, unter anderem ein maedchen aus der schweiz und eine aus argentinien. meine neuseelaendischen freunde sind ueberwiegend aus meiner dance-class!!

in einem haus voller maedchen ist shoppen natuerlich auch immer auf dem plan. ganz in der naehe gibt es ein kleines einkaufscenter und in der stadt gibt es eine grosse shoppingmall: sylivia park!!

ende august fahre ich mit meiner fam nach rotorua. das ist ein ort mit vulkanischen quellen!! es soll furchtbar stinken aber wunderbar anzusehen mit den geysiren und den schlammwirlpoolen usw…

seit mittwoch mache ich tanzen an einer tanzschule hier. natuerlich gibt es auch an der schule alle moeglichen clubs aber eben nicht das was mich so interessiert. ich habe mal mit dem lehrer gesprochen, der das gumboots-dancing leitet. das ist tanzen mit gummistiefeln :-D. er hat versprochen eine nachricht an meine tutorgroup zu schicken, hat sich aber noch nicht wieder gemeldet!

was auch sehr interessant hier ist, ist die umwelt. die strassen sind sehr breit und insgesamt ist die stadt sehrgruen im moment. das meer ist immer nicht weit!! es gibt viele verschiedene palmengewaechse hier und voellig andere baeume als in europa!!
